Mary Lou Cobb

Montessori Educator,  School Founder and Director, Vice President of  the Whole School Leadership Board, trained in  Montessori for Aging and Dementia, and currently works with the elderly using the Montessori Principles.

Before establishing her own consulting firm, Mary Lou was the founder and head of The Cobb School, Montessori in Simsbury, CT for 45 years. She received her Montessori Primary Diploma in 1964 and taught for over 30 years before stepping out of the classroom to focus on administration and to grow The Cobb School into a thriving, internationally recognized school. Mary Lou was trained by Margaret Stephenson and was mentored by Mother Isabel Eugenie and Margot Waltuch, all of whom were trained by Dr. Maria Montessori.

Mary Lou is a founding board member of Montessori Administrators Association (MAA), Montessori Training Center of New England (MTCNE), and Montessori Schools of Connecticut (MSC). Mary Lou also served on Sphere, a coalition of CT independent schools dedicated to diversity and inclusion.

Mary Lou is a trained instructor for NCCAPs Montessori Home Engagement Course, and completed a certificate in the Association Montessori Internationales Montessori for the Aging program, she completed a Montessori and Dementia course at Brush Development, and sits on the advisory board for the National Intergenerational Montessori Center at Crossway Communities.

Today, in addition to consulting with school leaders across the world, Mary Lou serves as board vice president and as a trainer-in-training for Whole School Leadership. She is an active member of Ethel Walker School’s Board of Trustees and serves on the Commission for Membership and Accreditation for CAIS. She recently completed the Elizabeth Slade Coaching Course as she continues to develop her expertise and help her clients build communities that work. Mary Lou was trained in Montessori for Aging and Dementia, and works with the elderly each week using the Montessori Principles.
