Foundations of Montessori Inclusion

Children’s House/Elementary

Who Should Take This Course?

If you are a Montessori teacher facing increasing numbers of children in your classes who lack the skills to navigate in your classroom and curriculum, this course is for you. If you are looking for ways to help these children “settle” in your classroom, come learn about the Social Pediatric Developmental model developed by influential pediatrician Theodor Hellbrügge.

We will explore how the responsibilities of meeting a child’s needs are shared through collaborative work. The parents, the Montessori Guide and support staff, and the interdisciplinary team of developmental specialists collaborate to help these children succeed in the Montessori classroom.

Learn with the World's Leaders in Montessori Inclusion

This course introduces you to the Hellbrügge Inclusion model and how it connects Dr. Montessori’s early work in Special Education with contemporary Montessori practice in the classroom.

  • Choose either Children’s House (birth to 7 years) or Elementary courses.
  • Take a deep dive into scientific pedagogy.
  • Learn how core Montessori principles can be applied within the Hellbrügge Social Pediatric Developmental Habilitation framework to aid the development, independence, and social integration of children with a variety of cognitive, language, social and motor challenges.
  • Learn the fundamentals of developmental practice through lecture, discussion, and practice applications: Montessori Classroom Inclusion, Montessori Medical Pedagogy and Montessori Therapy.

Special attention will be given to the process of individualizing supports for success. Collaborative partnerships and focus on a child’s strengths make it possible to effectively address conditions that interfere with a child’s success in the Montessori environment.

With a strong support network to help teachers, the developmental power of social inclusion emerges and this is the joy that inclusion brings to the entire community. This is the path to inclusion that Montessori teachers have been looking for and will love!
