Catherine Nehring Massie, M.A.T. (Elementary & Special Education), AMI (Montessori Elementary Diploma)
Catherine is a Montessori Special Educator who also has experience as Head of School at a private Montessori school and founder of two Montessori Public Charter Schools in Frederick, Maryland. She is a relentless advocate for the inclusion of more children with diverse abilities in Montessori school communities for the benefit of ALL children. Catherine studied Montessori Elementary education at Centro Internazionale Studi Montessoriani, in Bergamo, Italy. She also has specialized language development training with Dr. Fran Bowman in the Orton-Gillingham Plus Method and in the Dubard Association method at the Dubard School for Language Disorders. Catherine earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Mount St. Mary’s University and holds Maryland teaching licenses in Elementary and Special Education. Since 2018, Catherine has been Co-Founder/Director of Montessori Medical Partnership for Inclusion (MMPI), along with Barbara Luborsky. MMPI is the only international advocacy and support organization dedicated to expanding inclusion in Montessori schools around the world.
In April this year, Catherine became a participant in the Montessori Therapy Training Course 2023-2025 in Munich, Germany. MMPI has organized interpretation into English for the first international Cohort in this pioneering training, making it possible to prepare Montessori educators from 6 countries in 4 continents to build a more inclusive Montessori world.
Catherine is a proud mother and grandmother to 4 grown children and 4 grandchildren. She lives in Woodsboro, MD. With her husband and 91-year-old mother. She loves running, traveling, nature and doggies. “When you love what you do, you never work a day in your life!” Catherine finds nothing more enjoyable than working with children.
